TAVOLO

South Oakville Mall, 1515 Rebecca St. Unit 19, Oakville, 905-827-2221 Mon. to Sat. 11 am to 10 pm, Sun. 12 noon to 10 pm.
Went to Tavolo with a number of fellas I worked with on a nice Friday evening in June.  There were six of us that arrived at about 8 in the evening.  We decided to order several bottles of Malbec wine.
We read our menus and selected our choices.

The kitchen was open and easy for patrons to view.  It was clean and very busy.

There was a good number of patrons this evening.

We began with several bottles of an Argentinian Malbec, which was quite good with lamb.
We ordered a number of different appetizers before our mains.

Zucchine Fritte with black pepper and peperoncino aoili
Fritturina Poseidon with Calamari
Margherita Pizza
Pizza Cacciatore
For our mains 4 of us had the grilled lamb cutlets with lentils, baby kale, topped with salsa verde.

I had the feature pickerel with quinoa, green beans and corn.

We all enjoyed our appetizers and mains.  The service was excellent and we all finished with espresso.

SON OF A PEACH

#62 - 2049 Pine Street, Burlington, On. (905) 632-4040
A new pizzeria located in downtown Burlington at the Village Square complex, Son of a Peach has taken a dreary storefront and brightened it up to give it a new life.  My son suggested we try it for dinner.

The interior is bright and new and very welcoming.

We selected the garlic knots made with fresh garlic, parmigiano regiano, herb butter.  They were delicious!!
Tom and his friend shared the JJ's Hawaiian pizza, which consisted of homemade tomato sauce, pineapple chunks, double smoked apple wood bacon, cherry pink pea meal bacon, house pickled jalapenos, with whole milk and virgin mozzarella.  Expensive at $33.

My wife and I tried their wild mushroom pizza.  It consisted of house made tomato sauce, garlic, thyme and white wine roasted mushrooms, whole milk and virgin mozzarella.  It was loaded, but at $31 not cheap.

The libations list.
We decided to try a couple of glasses of the 13 th street winery red blend.  All in all we liked the environment and music here.  The clientele were upscale hipster and seemed at home in here.  The food was alright but pricey, maybe in time they will expand their menu.  The service was great.  Their website needs work.  Get rid of the silly name!!!
